讓香港學校成功找出適合的WIFI網絡品
經過多年來和老師的接觸,我們有幸了解到學校在落實e-learning所面對的挑戰。每日面對龐大的工作,包括教學、行政、課外活動及不斷的教育改革,老師要做的還有是跟自己本科知識以外的專門工作。對於教育局於2010年開始接受學校提交e-learning報告書,讓討論多年的電子教學正式邁向一大步。
所謂電子教學,總離不開電腦,即是逃不過上網的要求。在電腦電子產品這個行業,價格每年都是往下調。反觀,香港人工每年都會上漲。所以對於安裝WiFi的成本,價格已經比以前的平宜很多。另一令老師有所懷疑的是網絡的維持費用,要支援一個課室40人同時上網,佈置的WiFi不應該考慮使用家用式技術的WiFi Router。如是者,IT技術人員或科主任可能先要對產品有一定程度的認識或專業資格。如選擇out-source,每年的維護費用也要計算在內。
一套已經證明可支援多班40人的同學同時上網的WiFi,而且已經運行了差不多2年。
學校位於住宅區之間,打開電腦作簡單scanning,不難搜尋到20個以上附近住戶的SSID。訊號干擾問題非常嚴重---- 這是其中一個令老師經常提出WiFi 能否足夠讓一班人使用問題的癥結之一。這涉及以下的幾個因素:
1. 對抗外來干擾 (external interference)
2. 同頻干擾 (self-interference)
2. 系統使用者容量 (capacity)
3. 系統提升 (scalability)
4. 移動時的穩定性 (mobility)
總結而言,讓多人同時上網的最佳方法就是要把AP安裝得密一些。正如在一所酒樓內,當每人都高聲說話,你不會聽到對方的內容。那麼何不在耳邊細細聲的說??

Abstract:
Kau Yan School have started e-learning and teaching since 2009. Starting from building a learning center, to deploying campus WiFi and iPads for easy internet access, the school aims at promoting self-learning through IT and the Internet. Besides, the EEE Department of HKU will demonstrate their iClass app for e-learning & m-learning. With the iClass app, students can interact with both teachers and classmates in real time. Attendants will have the opportunity to try out iClass on iPads over the Extrciom WLAN, and to learn about the advantage of the Interference-Free technology.
